Emblem:
"A device, symbol, or figure adopted and used as an identifying mark."
-Merriam-Webster
Well here I go~
The results of tracing over the emblem/symbol over and over again with the tiny sketches in my notebook have resulted to these final two. >.> Trust me these two are better than some of the sketches (one even looks like saggy somethings for the B. I'll leave up to your imagination ^^'...)
I'll upload the pictures later on today (sometime before class - plus I still got to print them out) because I gotta go to sleep now so I can be ready in the morning to catch a ride to school.
Tada! Comments are much appreciated.
August 29th update~
I knew it... we need to push the designs further with a concept. 3 concepts to be exact!
One concept must be true to the original concept - defender of justice (vigilante.)So far I haven't figured out what to do for the other 2 concepts... Maybe a mafia boss? Rock star? Werewolf?! ^^ ok now I've completely lost it... from bat to wolf is not a very good idea.
Sept 5th update~
Okay I find out on Tuesday after CAREFULLY reading the post over again for the SIXTH TIME that 'cause I forgot to send an email with the content I wrote above on Aug. 29th... I gotta do the ones mentioned on the page layout 2 class blog (not this one.)So that means --> Corporate, Southwest, and Environmentalist.
I'll post my tiny sketches of my environmentalist one later on today - charging my phone so I can transfer the images. Didn't have time yesterday and today to charge my phone or be in a wi-fi area long enough to upload anything - stupid hospital and their lack of wi-fi!
Also I'm going to post my FINAL pieces for ReDesign 2 (it'd be a waste not to show this one but since its not considered an acceptable concept I'm going to put it on this page.)
Concept - Sound of Death... Rock n' Roll Batman
FINAL piece for Environmentalist & the others mentioned above will be posted in a post (on the main homepage) not this page.
Environmentalist -
First off I keep spelling this wrong... I keep forgetting the darn "n." Other than that I enjoyed this little environMENTAList idea. When I heard the word the first thing that came to mind was a leaf, trees and lots of green. Wasn't sure what I should do so I just went with a half sleepy drawn doodle I was doing while trying to stay awake in the ride to school. I'm not much of a morning person.Doodles --> <currently misplaced images - searching...>
I'm not much of a doodler (mostly cause my doodles looked deformed and I'm so used to pressing ctrl-z if I make a mistake that its weird not being able to fix my mistake on paper.) I use a pen to doodle with so its hard to erase.
Anyways we, the DDM students, have been taught by our teacher Chad that black (spot color) is always best to start off with. So I got myself confused using color first for the enviro sketches. Finally I just settled using color and made a little business card with a front and back design using the FINAL sketch to see how it would turn out if used on a business card. Not sure what other people will think.
Corporate -
When I heard the word corp. I thought isn't BM already a corp. guy with his Wayne corp!I had a little image in my head the other night when I went to sleep and its part of what you see below. The original idea was to use the BM with the bat making up the V in the M BUT when I tried it out on the computer it messed up the perfectly balanced proportions of the original M. So after zooming in and carefully tweaking the M's pillars I managed to add a tweaked bat symbol to the M. This time it was better balanced the the first 4 attempts.
Originally the whole M was 100% black but I decided to change the variation in tone to make the bat stand out a tiny bit more rather than blending completely into the pillars of the M.
Then came the business card - good thing I did it or I wouldn't have added motion or sizing to the BM logo. Not sure if the cards would've been considered sketches cause I did have to keep modifying them quite a bit in the one hour I spent in the van waiting for someone to come back. Overall I was quite satisfied with only using black as my spot color for everything. Corp = color: B&W typeface: Serif - automatically in my mind so I went with it and it resulted in this BM logo.
Southwest -
I would like to say, "yes i know what I'm going to do!" But sadly I still don't have a single clue what I should do! I wanted to try a spider rock/plateus or sand painting kind of design but I don't know very much about what would be appropriate and what isn't when it comes to sand paintings (I wanted to ask my grandpa but he's a sleep and I don't want to wake him up - he works hard all day it would be very rude to wake him UNLESS its kicking your sibs off the bed or just poking them with your foot really hard to wake them up.)Other than that I attempted (and MAJORLY FAILED) at a cowboy ropes, leather, and turquoise design. It was so horrifying I erased the file so no one would ever see the shameful attempt.
Basically I failed to complete this third concept design.
