Well being the idiot I am... I gave my laptop to my sister and put all my files on a usb. But none of the computers worked when i tried logging in to them. I thought it might be a problem with my NetID but I know I tested it on my laptop last tuesday and it worked! So I went to four of the computers was rejected everytime I tried loggging in.
Finally giving up I figured I would have to find my older sister and get my laptop back from her so I had to go run around the school and try to find her. Barely found her around 2:40 pm and got my laptop back. By that time I had run into my younger sister (sorry about her walking in... I forgot to warn her about that.)
Everything is finished!
I really wish you guys will give me an honest critique on here about the designs. The Hatters Publishing is... a bit iffy. Its the result of staying up until 6 am ready to crash.
Reaper Press
Using the finalized RP logo (that I've forgotten to post.) I made the typeface used in the logo and company name trying to make them mimic each other but the addresses, email, and phone number are a typeface called Apar... something (I'll update the name later.)
Ninja Comics
This logo was made purely by accident. I was fighting with my laptop trying to put the finishing touches on the RP logo when I made a mistake and selected the wrong transform > reflection option and made a little person. I just pushed the idea further from there. Again same typeface used in this package as the Reaper Press package. The Ninja Comics was made using the pen tool - its not really based off of anything I think. Design uses only a spot color of Black at different percentages of color. I tested it with colors and it is interchangeable but black is a always best.
Hatters Publishing
I feel like this is the weakest one out of the sketches. It could be pushed so much further. The typeface is my handwriting ^^' it was meant to look scary (imagine the creepy scratched in blood messages on a cement wall.) Its a very weak and simple design. But then again this is a sketch. I need to push this design further!!!
That's all for now. I shall post the business packages final sketches next week!
UPDATED Sept. 26
UPDATED Sept. 26
Okay. I wasn't sure if we were supposed to pick one of our logos from the previous assignment and make a business package for it or make a business package for all three logos. I did a business package for all three logos (as most can see from the sketches above.)
It appears that we were to select our best logo and make a business package from it.
Regardless, I decided to go full steam ahead with my three business packages and decide next class which one is the strongest to present.
So here are my (nearly) finalized sketches. I say "nearly" because I got NO comments (from my fellow classmates) on the first sketches - but thanks to my sisters' CRITICIZING eyes I improved the sketches from a 25% scaled down model for my mini-personalized portfolio composition book.
I would really appreciate it if you guys *glaring at fellow classmates and friends* leave a comment about any possible things I could do to improve the design, anything that might be hard to see, or if something doesn't flow together. Feel free to even complain about the colors or lack of colors.
I'm open to all sorts of criticism because what doesn't kill me will only make me stronger, right!
Hatters Publishing
Not much was changed aside from the use of a certain purple. After much arguing with my mother/sisters and going through a variety of Halloween/Victorian Gothic colors I settled on a rich purple. Actually now that I see this I should have gone with the blood wine red. The design is still weak and I want to spend lots more time on this later on so it will fit nicely in my professional portfolio for next AIGA portfolio review.

Reapers Press
Made some tiny tweaks to this one. Added a dye cut to the card, letterhead, and envelope (mostly to help myself when I print and cut - same with the sketches below.) I did change some tiny details to the logo (a compound path for a little problem.) the concept is to be a graveyard publisher, hence the color scheme and logo, that publishes old manga - Japanese "comics" - that are so old and unpopular that they have no chance of ever being published in English companies.
Now I wonder if I should change the shape of my business card to a unique one like the ninja star! Its off to the sketch book! I hope I can make a finalized card to present next tuesday. I'll post the rough sketch on here tomorrow.
Ninja Comics
There are two business card layouts - the ninja star does go with the logo (my older sister suggested it she thinks a plain rectangle card is UGLY and UNORIGINAL.)
*takes a moment to pull the bleeding stabs of my sister's comments out*
So I went with her suggestion and made a ninja star card that I can practice throwing at someone! You have to admit it is interesting and compact which means more can fit on a single page while printing! Have tested this theory yet but it makes logical sense.
The other business card layout is the one in the middle. Its very similar to the Hatters' card. I added a rugged mountain background to the card to add a feel to it. Because for me when I think of a ninja my mind automatically comes up with a hidden training grounds high or deep in the mountains.
Adding other colors aside my spot color of Black seemed pointless - what ninja would wear sky blue?! Yes, the fact that ninjas need to blend with their surrounds (including people, cities, and nature) is not lost on me. BUT I prefer the traditional blend with the shadows kind of ninja.
I left an open space for the stamp(s) for the envelope. I know the logo should not be on the left but I couldn't help it! It just worked so well right there!

Damn! your are creative and I have been in awe with your designs in class. I hope the 'Reaper Press' is your best one, that you chose it as your final. Maybe add some more colors and unique design will help the 'Reaper Press' but other than that - your good. On the other thought, maybe do more and more sketches.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ben on your reaper press design. I like how you did the the right about of gray you have on there. It's nice and simple straight to the point. Your an awesome designer all your work is awesome
