Assignment 3 - Logo Design

Audience - Manga fanantics
Concept - American based manga publishing company (Ex. VIZMedia, Dark Horse, Tokyopop, and Shonen Jump.)

In the future I'm going to build a small publishing company (manga based) so I can gain permission from some awesome unrecognized mangakas of the past (preferably before they disappear) to publish their work in English. So designing a logo for this future company is the first step!

So here are my best three sketches.

<-- FatCat Press
Hatters Publishing ->

9-19-13 UPDATED
I know there's no excuses for missing class. Regardless I'm going to write what happened.

Well being the idiot I am... I gave my laptop to my sister and put all my files on a usb. But none of the computers worked when i tried logging in to them. I thought it might be a problem with my NetID but I know I tested it on my laptop last tuesday and it worked! So I went to four of the computers was rejected everytime I tried loggging in.

Finally giving up I figured I would have to find my older sister and get my laptop back from her so I had to go run around the school and try to find her. Barely found her around 2:40 pm and got my laptop back. By that time I had run into my younger sister (sorry about her walking in... I forgot to warn her about that.)

Everything is finished!

I decided (more like was forced into a realization) that FatCat Press wouldn't work out. So I made a new one - Ninja Comics!!!
Bus is here will update this later on when I get home!

I was trying really hard to make a old tattered hat - it was meant to be a mixture between the Sorting Hat and a grim reaper's hat (based off of Touya Tobina's manga.)
Originally I wanted to make it a tattered top hat (Mad Hatter Publishing) but I figured Mad Hatter is copyrighted already. I know some of the others suggested I try incorprating the H or Hatters into the hat but I tried that and it disappears completely at 1/4 inch. So its kind of pointless.

 Reaper Press - This was an attempt at a cross between a Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament symbol (otherwise known as a peace sign) and death scythes. A modified version of the upper left turned into my final sketch on the main page of this blog.

The Ninja comics was a helpful mistake. Don't have any sketches for it - only the first and final sketch below. I was messing around with the R in Reaper Press and used the Transform > Reflect > Copy. It resulted in a cute little character which I ended up pushing even further into the logo below before going over it one more time with the Pen tool and making the ninja one whole shape rather than 16 individual shapes. Making the letters was kind of hard trying to stay within the guidelines and make the individual letters flow together.
